Brazilian woman is found after disappearing in Africa and asking for help live

Brazilian influencer researcher Caroline Amanda Lopes Borges was found by police in South Africa this Sunday (26) after disappearing last Saturday (25). According to the Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, Caroline’s life is not at risk, but she is “very injured”.

The Brazilian, who is doing an exchange in South Africa, disappeared after going live on a social network, in which she reported having been a victim of torture and sexual abuse.

The live broadcast would have been made from the parking lot of a shopping mall in Johannesburg and, after a few minutes, the live went off the air.

After the disappearance, minister Anielle Franco said – also through social media – that “steps” were being taken to locate the researcher and that both the Brazilian embassy in South Africa and the local police had already been contacted.

This Sunday, Anielle posted the information that Caroline had been found. According to her, the “police investigation is still ongoing” and the Federal Police are monitoring the case.

The exchange agency Brafrika reported this Sunday that Caroline is conscious and accompanied by a representative from the Brazilian embassy. On Instagram, the agency owner said she spoke on the phone with the influencer.

“She is emotionally shaken, with her left leg immobilized and bruises on her hands and arms. We are working to transfer her to the hospital, activating the insurance and arranging for her to travel to Brazil as urgently as possible so that she can be with her family”, he wrote.

Who is Caroline

Caroline Amanda is 33 years old, a researcher with a degree in social and political sciences from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and a master’s student in philosophy at the same university.

She is the founder of the women’s well-being and intimate health platform Yoni das Pretas.
