The Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming, Paulo Teixeira, said that the reduction in the price of the dollar should reflect on the low price of food and that agricultural production is not the problem.
The statements took place on Saturday, 1st, in the election of the House of Representatives. Teixeira has a mandate of federal deputy for the PT of Sao Paulo and was in the house hours before the vote. He supports the favorite of the chamber presidency, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB).
“The largest anchor of the increase in food price is not agricultural production. We have the largest agricultural production in Brazil. The anchor is in the dollar. The dollar has risen very strongly, Trump effect, and now lowered, which will reverberate in low food, ”he said.
Teixeira continued: “At the same time, there is the so -called ox cycle. This cycle of the ox, where there is excess slaughter and lack meat, it is passing. He’s ending, he is over. So this will also reflect on the flesh. ”
The minister also stated that there must be an agricultural credit policy to reach the basic basket. According to him, fresh products had no impact on inflation.
“We are adjusting, we have already done this in Pronaf, we must do this in Pronampe, the agricultural credit, to reverberate about the basic basket. You can see that there was no inflation in fresh, fresh products, ”he said.

Teixeira added: “Inflation was in meat, sugar, coffee, soy and corn derivatives and orange. These products just decrease the dollar, which you will have more offers of these products at a cheaper price. ”
The minister also said that the year is quieter from a climate point of view, which should also have a reflection on increased agricultural production.
