The interim president of, arrived on Sunday (2), on his first visit abroad since he overthrew in December, the regime of Bashar al-Assad as leader of a coalition of armed groups. Accompanied by his Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shaibani, the president was received by Saudi authorities at the airport.
The press reported that Al-Sharaa will meet with the heir prince and de facto ruler of the country rich in oil, Mohamed Bin Salman, but has not revealed the date. Al-Sharaa was appointed last Wednesday as interim president of Syria, at a meeting at closed doors of the “General Command of Military Operations”, his coalition of Islamist armed groups that toppled Assad on December 8.
The new Syrian authorities expect to rely on the resources of the Gulf countries to finance the country’s reconstruction, suffocated by international sanctions against the previous government and almost 14 years of civil war, which left half a million dead and millions of displaced people.
