Brazilian fish exports hit a record in 2024

Sector revenue reaches US $ 59 million, with growth of 138%; Tilapia represents 94% of the total and USA are the main destination

Brazilian fish farming recorded US $ 59.01 million in exports in 2024, growth of 138% over US $ 24.75 million of 2023. The shipped volume reached 13,792 tons, an increase of 102% compared to the 6,815 tons of the year Previous, according to data released in 2.FEV.2025 by (Brazilian Agricultural Research Company) and Peixe BR (Brazilian fish farming association).

Tilapia leads exports with US $ 55.6 million in revenue and 12,463 tonnes boarded, representing 94% of the total. Fresh fillets were the main product, generating US $ 36 million, followed by frozen whole fish, with $ 17 million.

The US is the largest buyer, accounting for 89% of revenue (US $ 52.3 million), especially tilapia. Peru mainly matters Brazilian native species, such as Curimatá, Pacu and Tambaqui.

Paraná maintains the export leadership with US $ 35.7 million (64% of the total). São Paulo registered a growth of 507%, reaching US $ 16.7 million in 2024, compared to US $ 2.7 million in 2023.

Despite the record in exports, the trade balance of fish farming closed 2024 with a deficit of $ 992 million. Imports totaled US $ 1 billion, mainly salmon (US $ 990 million) and Pangasius.
