Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj approved the transition plan to the new organizational structure of the armed forces, including the creation of military corps.
He announced this on Monday in his regular evening speech, TASR informs, referring to DPA.
“Today we have discussed the approaches to the appointment of church commanders: it should be the best trained, most promising officers with combat experience and modern thinking. The army must be modern. And most importantly, he has to appreciate his people, ”said Zelenskyj in his speech.
The largest organizational unit of the Ukrainian armed forces is currently a brigade with around 5,000 soldiers. This concept comes from the pre -war period, when an army based mostly on professional soldiers performing limited operations was counted.
According to military experts, however, Ukraine in the ongoing war with Russia is missing structures for extensive events. The current organizational structure of the armed forces causes confusion and delays and hence losses and defeats.
For Zelensky, the modernization of the army is one of the priorities. In his speech, he again mentioned the need to strengthen air defense, especially the protection of energy equipment that Russia systematically destroys. According to him, the future of Ukraine depends on whether it manages to develop enough of its own systems, get them from partners or can be made in a license, said Zelenskyj.
