The United States court has decided to prevent the Treasury Department from sharing data from the third party payment system with third parties, as it wages Elon Musk’s plans to reduce public spending. The businessman, who leads the Doge government efficiency group, had already indicated that his team was “ending” certain referrals from the Treasury.
Elon Musk faces setback in court: Federal Judge prevents treasure data access and sharing. Learn about the case and the legal implications.
Judicial decision prevents cuts on government spending
The decision was made by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, who ordered the suspension of information sharing after being revealed that Musk’s team had access to the system responsible for distributing dolions of dollars in federal payments.
The lawsuit was filed by representatives of civil servants and retirees, who argue that this sharing data violates privacy protections provided for in federal law.
Access to data under judicial scrutiny
The US government said in court that only two members of Doge-Tom Krause, executive president of the Cloud Software group, and Marko Elez, a 25-year-old programmer-had access to the payment system. However, the judge has determined that no information could be shared outside the treasure while evaluating a final decision.
With this measure, Elon Musk is prevented from directly accessing the data, which represents a setback in his intention to optimize federal spending. The tycoon has defended significant cuts in government expenses and suggested structural changes in the way payments are managed.
Implications for the government efficiency group
The musk -led entity is already under investigation due to access that has obtained networks from different federal agencies, including the Department of Health and the Department of Transport.
The judicial decision now issued may influence the unfolding of other legal proceedings against DOGE, which faces accusations of invasion of government systems and improper use of sensitive data.
The White House has not yet commented on the court’s ruling, but sources close to the Biden administration state that the security of government financial data is a priority.
Meanwhile, Musk’s lawyers prepare their defense, arguing that Doge’s goal is just to make the payment system more efficient and transparent.
