The captain of the National Football Team, Cristiano Ronaldo, is one of the most spoken figures, both in the sports press and in the pink press, and the celebration of his 40 years has made a lot of paint in national newspapers and magazines. If its 40th anniversary was a conversation theme, the new statue over three and a half meters, carved in its honor, put the Portuguese striker even more in the center of mediaism.
In the city of Funchal, a homeland of Cristiano Ronaldo, since 2014 there has been a carved statue in honor of the soccer player. Tourists stop to take photographs and residents who spend there every day never forget the ‘star’ of football. Three years later a bust of Cristiano Ronaldo was carried out at Funchal airport, which divided opinions by many to consider that he did not faithfully portray the striker’s striker.
The statue is more than three and a half meters height
Now, under the pretext of the celebration of its 40th birthday, a statue of Cristiano Ronaldo was carved from what is one of the busiest squares in the world. We talk about Times Square, located in New York. The statue is three and a half meters high and sculptor Sergio Furnari was responsible for the work of art.
It is a bronze sculpture, where the national team player appears painted green, red and gold, to invoke the nationality of the star, and with the index finger of his left hand in front of his mouth, as if asking silence.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is more than just a soccer player”
The sculptor cites the statue that stands in Times Square, which praises the Portuguese ‘star’. “Cristiano Ronaldo is more than just a soccer player; It is a symbol of perseverance, excellence and global unity that inspired me in the creation of this masterpiece, ”he says.
Sergio Furnari also says that the statue was created to inspire Ronaldo in the next championship of the football world, which will be held in 2026, because the sculptor believes that “with the right training and mental preparation, Ronaldo can win” the competition.
While the 2026 World Championship does not arrive, the statue will be the target of several photographs of numerous Portuguese international fans who spend daily by Times Square in New York.
