Migration to the free market breaks record, driven by small customers

Migration to Free Energy Market in Brazil broke record and reached 26,834 consumers in 2024. More smaller companies and individuals went to the Free Hiring Environment (ACL), after opening for all high voltage in January last year , point the data.

The figures of 2024 represented an increase of 262% compared to 2023, when 7,397 migrations were recorded in the Electricity Marketing Chamber (CCEE).

Lower demand average

The average demand hired by consumers last year was 240 kilowatts (KW). In 2023, the average had been 416 kW, which shows that small trades and industries were more present in migrations.

In all, 92% of customers who migrated by 2024 have a load less than 500 kW, against 67% in the previous year.

Customers with demand greater than 1 megawatt (MW) corresponded to only 2% of migrations in 2024. In the previous year, this type of consumer accounted for a percentage of 6%.

The migration of individuals also represented a novelty, with 342 clients going to ACL last year. In 2023, only nine individuals migrated. Today, only consumers on the high voltage network can opt for the free environment.

The service sector leads the list of segments with more migration, with 7,117 consumer units performing the movement in 2024. Trade had 6,378 new clients in ACL, followed by companies in the food industry (6,378), manufactured (2,984) and sanitation (2.248 ).

Among the states, São Paulo occupies the leadership with 8,835 migrations. Rio Grande do Sul is the second, with 2,639 customers and Paraná is in third position with 2,240.

More than 12,000 customers informed distributors the desire to migrate to the Free Market in the first half of 2025.
