Greek donuts, or Loukoumades, are fried honey puffs. If we make them on Fat Thursday, they will certainly do competition, pancakes and traditional donuts. They delight with a crunchy crust, fluffy interior and honey coating, often enriched with cinnamon and nutswhich gives them a unique taste and aroma. Check the recipe straight from Greece, also used in Turkey and Cyprus.

We make Greek donuts with yeast dough and fry them in deep fat. They are an ideal proposition for gourmets of carnival snacks looking for new products. The combination of honey sweets, cinnamon with an intense, spicy aroma and crunchy nuts is simply insane.

What syllables we need to do loukumades?

Cake ingredients:

  • 240 ml of hot water;
  • 120 ml of warm milk;
  • 500 g of universal flour;
  • 80 g of soft butter;
  • 50 g of fresh yeast;
  • 50 g cukru;
  • 3 eggs;
  • 1 teaspoon of salt.

Ingredients for honey coating:

  • 120 ml of liquid honey;
  • 120 ml of water;
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon;
  • 50 g of chopped nuts.

Additionally:

  • approx. 1 liter of frying oil.

To make Loukoumades, to start with We combine yeast with warm water in a bowl and set it off for 5 minutes. They will start to create foam.

In the next step in another bowl We mix milk, sugar and salt until the sweetener dissolves. Then We pour a mixture of yeast and water – We combine the whole with each other, stirring.

Then We add flour, eggs and butter And we start kneading the dough. It must be smooth and flexible. Set aside such a mass to rise for 30 minutes to double its volume. Mix it and leave it again for 30 minutes.

During the rose of the dough, we prepare a honey coating. For this purpose, we heat the honey with water in a saucepan on medium heat. We bring this mixture to a boil and after a while leave to cool.

After growing the dough, soak the spoon in the water and begin to take on small portions, forming balls from them. We put them in hot oil into a pot or a large pan. Fry Greek donuts until they have a golden color on each side.

We put small balls on a plate lined with a paper towel to drain them from excess fat. At the end Pour Loukoumades with honey coating and sprinkle with cinnamon and walnuts.
