Pope Francis had episodes of acute respiratory failure at night

Pope Francis suffered two episodes of “acute respiratory failure” on Monday (3) and had to use noninvasive mechanical ventilation, according to the Vatican.

This new crisis was caused by a large accumulation of mucus in the bronchi, leading to a narrowing of the airways. Therefore, doctors performed two pulmonary endoscopies to remove the secretions, said the Vatican.

Francisco has been at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, for more than two weeks fighting double pneumonia at the hospital,
He was hospitalized on February 14 with a severe respiratory infection that triggered other complications.
