Japan and Sweden move into the knockout phase in lockstep

Dallas – A 1-1 draw of the more modest variety was enough for Japan and Sweden to qualify for the round of 16 of the World Cup on the night from Thursday to Friday. Daizen Maeda (56th) and Anthony Elanga (62nd) scored the goals in a game with few chances in Dallas. Japan, second in Group F behind the Netherlands, will face Brazil in the knockout round on Monday, while Sweden is one of the eight best third-place teams in the pool.
