Gymnast Rebeca Andrade, Brazil’s largest Olympic medalist with six medals, was nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards award in the return of the year category. The award is considered a kind of sports Oscar and will be celebrated on April 21 in Madrid, Spain.
Rebeca competes with American swimmer Caeleb Dressel, Swiss skiing Laura Gut-Behrami, Spanish motorcyclist Marc Márquez, Cricket Player Rishabh Pant and Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus. The category is dedicated to athletes who have found obstacles to compete. The Brazilian athlete had her career marked by injuries in the previous cruciate ligament in the right knee.
Andrade accumulates six Olympic medals throughout Brazil. Two are gold, conquered on the ground in Paris-2024 and in the jump in Tokyo-2020, three are silver and one is bronze.
Among the gymnast’s competitors in the return of the year category, Márquez, Pant and Titmus also recovered from physical injuries, while Dressel returned from an eight -month remoteness to take care of his mental health.
The award, which turns 25, also includes other categories, such as male athlete, female athlete, team of the year, revelation of the year, action athlete, paratlete of the year and sports for good – decaded to social initiatives.
