LeBron James reached another milestone in his unprecedented career in the NBA (American Basketball League) last Tuesday (4), becoming the first player to score 50,000 total points after hitting a three-point basket in the first quarter of the Lakers overwhelming victory in Los Angeles for 136-115.
James entered the match with 49,999 combined regular season and playoffs and hit a long distance throw to add another remarkable moment to his legendary career. At the end of the game, he left the court with 50,033 points.
“It’s a huge amount of points,” James said after the game. “I’m extremely blessed for being able to score so many points in the best league in the world and with the best players in the world throughout my career. So it’s very special.”
His closest persecutor among active players is Phoenix Suns’s Kevin Durant, which adds 35,225 points.
LeBron, 40, had surpassed the record of all time in the regular season (38,387 points, established by the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) in 2023, a mark that took 39 years to beat.
Akron’s native Ohio also holds the all -time playoff scoring record, which he won from the legendary Chicago Bulls player Michael Jordan in May 2017.
James gives no signs of slowing down in his 22nd league season. He was appointed player of the month of the NBA West Conference in February, extending his record in the 41 monthly awards, including three with the Lakers.
He is also the oldest player to win the prize, surpassing the previous record set by Karl Malone (37) with Utah Jazz in November 2000.
The four -time NBA champion James and the Lakers have been in an impressive sequence since they purchased Luka Doncic from Dallas Mavericks in an surprising exchange for Anthony Davis last month.
The growing chemistry between James and Doncic was fully aired on Tuesday (4), when they together totaled 64 points and 21 assists in the 136-115 win against the New Orleans team.
“He’s getting more and more comfortable not only with the team, not just with the plays, but with everything. The fans, there,” said James.
“Every day it will be better for him in terms of health because he is getting better with his calf. It’s good for our team.”
Doncic suffered a distension in the left calf during a Christmas day game that left him out of action for almost six weeks.
Tuesday’s victory extends the current sequence of Lakers’ victories to seven games and the team rose to second place in the West Conference.
James, who has been a defense leader, as well as a powerful scorer this season, said he likes how the team is coming together.
“We are just trying to continue to closely and defensively and be responsible and responsible to each other,” James said.
“I think it’s working for us so far.”
