Although porcini mushrooms are considered one of the most valuable mushrooms in Polish forests, some of them have their dangerous doubles. One of the most misleading and at the same time poisonous species is the fragrance.

Blood of Satanic (Rubroboletus Satanas) is one of the least common mushrooms in Europe. In Poland, it is on a red list of plants and fungi with the category “E”, i.e. critically threatened with extinction. This means that each found specimen is strictly protected. A few days ago, foresters informed about real sensation – for the first time in history this fungus appeared in the vicinity of Poznań. Until now, it has been recorded only in Greater Poland in the Sieraków Forest District.

It is not without reason that Bloodborov arouses interest. His light gray, massive hat contrasts with an intense red shaft. After cutting, the flesh quickly takes on a bluish shade. Some compare it to the “live Polish flag”. There are two reasons for which a blood circle should absolutely not be collected:

  1. strict species protection – each specimen of this fungus is extremely valuable from the point of view of nature and inscribed on the list of critically endangered species;
  2. strong toxicity – The fungus contains dangerous relationships, including Muscarin and Bolesatin, which can lead to serious intoxication.

This unusual blade of colors makes him be mistaken for other porcini mushrooms, but the effects of such a mistake can be tragic.

Consumption of this fungus, both raw and after thermal treatment, can cause very strong symptoms of poisoning. The most common include:

  • diarrhea and vomiting,
  • severe abdominal pain,
  • dizziness and headaches,
  • visual disturbance and hallucinations,
  • neurological problems,
  • erythema on the face, excessive sweating and tearing of the eyes,
  • Pressure drops, and in extreme cases even collapse.

When mushrooming, follow the principle: do not collect mushrooms that you are not sure. In case of doubt, it is better to take a picture and leave a specimen in nature. Thanks to this, you will not only avoid health risk.
