The screening, described as a “monumental work of art”, will be broadcast by ABC television at the start of its 25-hour Independence Day program on July 4.
The statue in a new light
“The Statue of Liberty will be presented to the public as no one has seen it before, in a production designed to amplify its symbolic and emotional power,” the consulate said.
“Our friendship has lasted for 250 years, is still very strong and has deep roots. That’s why we wanted to do something special,” French Consul General in New York Cédrik Foursicot told AFP.
Historical connection
The Statue of Liberty was donated by France to the United States in 1886 and is one of the country’s most famous monuments.
Paris also sent the Patrouille de France aerobatic squadron to the US this month. On June 9, eight Alpha Jet aircraft flew over the iconic statue, sending plumes of smoke in the colors of the French tricolor into the sky above Manhattan.
