The filed a public civil action in the São Paulo Court, last Thursday (June 25, 2026), against the digital influencer for producing content considered by the agency to be discriminatory against poor people.
In a statement released on Monday (June 29), the MP-SP said that the action was proposed by the Human Rights Prosecutor’s Office of the Capital of São Paulo. The agency declared that the influencer promoted hate speech against people in situations of economic vulnerability by arguing, in videos published on social media, that they should not have the right to vote. The action was also filed against the company Meta.
Known on social media as Léo Marcondes, the influencer classifies himself as a “financial coach” and has 1.3 million followers on Instagram. In his profile description, Marcondes sells “financial diagnosis” and publishes a “enrichment club”. He is a former professional volleyball athlete and founder of , a mentoring and events program, based in Balneário Camboriú (SC).
In a post that aired on Instagram, the influencer declared that “poor people shouldn’t vote” and that “poor people want to take advantage” at all.
“Have you ever stopped to think that poor people shouldn’t have the right to vote? Think with me. A person who is poor, they didn’t know how to make good decisions to have the best for their family and for themselves. And this person who didn’t make good decisions to have the best for themselves, they will now make a decision that will be the best for the country”declared Marcondes in the video.
“What ability does this person have when making decisions? None. This is a person who shouldn’t vote. Because a country or a company cannot be in the hands of a person who can’t even take responsibility for their own attitudes. Try to think how the world would be a better place if the poor didn’t vote, if the decision-making power of a country remained in the hands of the rich, until the poor became rich so that they could have the power to make decisions too”said the influencer.
For prosecutor Ricardo Manuel Castro, Marcondes’ speech “equates scarcity of material resources with constitutional irresponsibility, resulting in conduct marked by aporophobia (offensive speech against poor people)”.
The MP-SP said that the influencer “builds and reinforces stereotypes by associating poor people with incapacity, irresponsibility and exclusion from democratic participation”.
The prosecutors are asking the Court to order the influencer’s Instagram profile to be taken offline, ordered to pay R$300,000 for collective moral damages and social harm, in addition to banning new publications with content considered discriminatory against poor people.
O Poder360 He contacted Leonardo Marcondes via direct message sent on Instagram and via messaging app to ask if he would like to comment on the MP-SP’s action. There was no response until the publication of this report. The text will be updated if a statement is sent to this digital newspaper.
