Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) compared the case of federal deputy Carla Zambelli to that of terrorist Cesare Battisti and asked the Italian government not to extradite the congressman to Brazil. Zambelli has been arrested in the European country since the end of July, waiting for his process in Italian courts. The final word will be from the Italian government through the Ministry of Justice.
Flávio participated on Sunday morning (21) of the Annual League party, Ultracerea Party of Italian Deputy Breeding Matteo Salvini. The event, which took place in Pontida, in northern Italy, was attended by politicians from the Italian and European ultra -right and honored conservative activist Charlie Kirk, murdered in the US.
The Brazilian senator took the stage about two hours after the event began and spoke for about ten minutes. Speaking of Zambelli, he compared her case to that of Italian Cesare Battisti and asked Italy not to extradite the deputy.
She fled from Brazil to escape the conviction of ten years in prison determined by the Supreme Court, for participating in the invasion of the CNJ (National Council of Justice) system.
“Just as the government of President Bolsonaro returned terrorist Cesare Battisti to Italy, I ask Italy not to send Zambelli back to Brazil, because there she could die in the chain unfairly,” said Flávio.
Battisti’s extradition was authorized in 2018 by the then President Michel Temer. The Italian was then detained in 2019 in Bolivia and sent to Italy in the first year of the Bolsonaro government.
Flávio also criticized Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF), and said the press is also guilty of the attacks on former President Jair Bolsonaro in 2018 and American Donald Trump in 2024 and the death of Kirk.
“Big media, stop lying about us, right -wing politicians. Stop calling us extremists because they are feeding hatred against us,” said Flávio, in Portuguese, with simultaneous translation. “You have a portion of responsibility in stabbing Jair Bolsonaro, shot in Donald Trump and the murder of Charlie Kirk. Because, by your influence, true extremists believed they were doing something good trying to kill us.”
Wearing a T -shirt with the name of Salvini written on his back, the senator stated that “with the left in power, Brazil lost his sovereignty.” “China is buying the whole of Brazil, from minerals to good land for planting. But we, on the right, we will fight so that our yellow-green flag never becomes the red of communism,” he said.
The former president’s son stated that Moraes chases the right in Brazil. “He condemned Bolsonaro for undemocratic acts just for criticizing the electoral system and making speeches against the corrupt left. Just like dictators [Nicolás] Maduro, Venezuela, and Daniel Ortega, Nicaragua, did with their political opponents, “he said.
Bolsonaro was sentenced by the Supreme Court for 27 years and three months in prison for attempted coup.
At the end of his speech, Flavio said in Italian: “Italy sopra Tutto, Dio Sopra Tutti”, his translation into the pockets “Brazil above all, God above all”.
In the audience, a group of about ten people wore Brazilian shoulder flags and held the “Free Bolsonaro” poster.
In his time in Italy, Flávio visited, on Friday (19), Zambelli in prison in Rome. He was accompanied by Senators Damares Alves (Republicans-DF), Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE) and Magno Malta (PL-ES), as well as Deputy Cabo Gilberto (PL-PB).
After the meeting of about two hours, Flávio argued that the deputy will serve her sentence in Italy, in house arrest, without being extradited to Brazil. “I appeal to the Italian Minister of Justice so that (…) leave Carla in house arrest here in Italy,” he said.
On Saturday (20), the senator attended an event in the Italian capital with Brazilians supporters of Bolsonaro. He defended the amnesty to those convicted of coup acts and again criticized Moraes, whom he blamed for the political crisis.
With the slogan “free and strong”, the league event took place outdoors, on a lawn, where a stage was set up. In the speeches of League politicians, criticism of the European Union, immigrants, “Islamic danger” and the defense of “freedom of opinion.” Some wore a black t -shirt with the image of Kirk and the word “Freedom”.
The main international attraction was Frenchman Jordan Bardella of the National Meeting Party, the same as Marine Le Pen. The RN leads, more than 30%, voting intentions in France. “Charlie Kirk has launched a message of courage. The courage to defend his own ideas, to tell the truth, to love his homeland, even when it bothers,” he said.
The Spanish Santiago ABASCAL, Vox leader, sent a video message. “We need to continue to collaborate to defend our national sovereignty. It will be difficult, they want to intimidate us with persecution, threats and violence. But they will not stop us,” he said.
It was up to Salvini to end the event, shortly after 1:30 pm (8:30 am in Brasilia). He asked for a minute of silence in honor of Kirk. And he said he was against the Italian trip to fight in the Ukraine war and the European rearmament plan.
The event has been taking place for over 30 years in Pontida, in the province of Bergamo. In 2024, the main guest was Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Last year former President Jair Bolsonaro participated with a video message, which said he supported Salvini in his “fight against illegal immigrants.”
President of the League, Salvini is one of the pillars of the parliamentary majority who governs Italy, alongside Premier Giorgia Meloni (brothers of Italy) and Antonio Tajani (Força Italy), also deputy premie.
Among them, Salvini is the most radical and the closest to the Bolsonaro family. He was the only one to speak publicly after the former president’s conviction. “Solidarity to friend Jair Bolsonaro. When there is no more arguments, the left uses any means to reach political opponents, starting with the judiciary. They won’t stop you, strength, president!” Wrote Salvini on X on September 11.
