Russia Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has once again had the need to “address the deep causes” of the conflict with Ukraine within any negotiation to achieve peace, an issue that now seems more tangible after kyiv accepted on the eve of the United States proposal for a high temporal fire. “We insist that any approach, any attempt to approach the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, any initiative must focus on eradicating the deep causes of the conflict,” Lavrov said during a conversation with US communicators. Russia has always justified the invasion of Ukraine as a “special military operation” to combat the alleged Nazism in the neighboring country and at the same time preventing it from adhering to NATO. Now, more than three years after the outbreak of the war, the conversations revolve around the security guarantees that kyiv demands to accept a peace that seems to be more accompanied with the loss of territory. Regarding these security guarantees, Lavrov has indicated that it is the European countries who are obsessed with displaying “peace forces” in Ukraine, although Moscow will not accept this extreme, since it would represent the presence of NATO troops in Ukrainian territory. “This is not what is needed to end (war),” said Lavrov, according to the Russian agency Tass.
