Portugal will hold early elections on May 18

Portugal will have early elections on May 18, the third in just three years, after the parliament overthrew the minority government of the center-right of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro in a vote of confidence.

The collapse can delay some important decisions, including a plan to privatize the state airline TAP this year and infrastructure investments.

The government of Montenegro, who took office less than a year ago, also intended to increase defense spending, as well as other European nations.
