Leaders of the South American qualifiers, the current world champions benefited from the goalless draw between Bolivia and Uruguay.
Bolivians, seventh placed, went to 14 points and have only four more games to play. At most, they reach 26 points. Argentina has 28. The top six are qualified for the World Cup. The seventh dispute for recap.
Also on Tuesday, Iran joined Japan as the second Asian qualifiers country confirming its participation in the event based by United States, Mexico and Canada.
The Iranians got the vacancy after a 2-2 tied against Uzbekistan.
To date, seven countries are qualified for the 2026 World Cup. In addition to the hosts, Argentina, Iran, Japan and New Zealand have secured a place.
Already classified, Argentina receives Brazil this Tuesday, at 21h (Brasília), in Buenos Aires. Dorival Júnior’s team occupies the third place in the classification, with 21 points, one less than Ecuador, which faces Chile in this round.
