Bedding must be washed regularly. However, wanting to remain clean and fragrant for a long time, it is worth using the method already used by our grandmothers. Thanks to it, the fabric will be extremely fresh and pleasant to the touch. Check how to care for bedding and how to wash it to enjoy its purity for many days.
Systematic washing of bedding is very important because it is every day exposed to dust, bacteria, mites, sweat and exfoliating epidermis. In addition, microorganisms can develop in a warm and humid environment. They can cause allergies and affect the quality of our sleep.
Therefore, it is recommended that linen at least every 2-3 weeks, and in the case of people suffering from allergies to do it once a week. Often, however, the washing itself is not enough and if you want to keep the bedding fresh for longer, it is worth performing an activity that we associate with our grandmothers. I am talking about starch.
Krochmal was a method used by many people during the Polish People’s Republic. It not only allows the bedding to be clean for a long time, but also makes it take on an elegant look. Krochmal owes its influence on freshness of fabricsIt brew a protective layer on the surface of the fibers, limiting the absorption of dirt and sweat. Thanks to this, bedding is much more hygienic.
The advantage of starch is also that preparing it at home is not complicated. We only need water and potato starch to make it. To perform starch, we must:
- Pour 2-3 tablespoons of potato starch up to 1/2 cup of cold water and mix them thoroughly.
- In addition, we boil 3 liters of water in a pot. Then, the mixture from the glass is slowly pouring into boiling water, stirring constantly until the fluid thickens.
- The resulting starch is diluted with lukewarm water in a bathtub or a large bowl.
- We put the bedding in a previously launched and soak it for about a quarter of an hour.
- We impress the excess water from the fabric and leave to dry.
The bedding refreshed in this way will be fresh and fragrant much longer. In addition, it will become pleasant to the touch and will be less susceptible to all kinds of dirt.

However, we must know that we can not starch every bedding. This method is unfortunately not a universal way that will work with any fabric. Starch can only be used on cotton or linen bedding.
Let’s not do this treatment on polyester fabrics, as well as bedding from bark, satin or flannel. Their properties and the construction of fibers could suffer during starch.
