The Israeli army is expanding operations in the Gaza Strip against Hamas, calling on residents to evacuate from areas affected by air raids.
Israeli raids in the north of the Gaza band claimed at least 15 victims on Thursday morning, the local civil defense agency said. According to hospital sources, about 55 people died in the night Thursday attacks, TASR writes, according to AP and AFP reports.
A spokesman for Mahmoud Bassal said the aim of the air raids was several houses in the district of Šudžaja in Gaza. “Several people are still trapped under the ruins,” he said.
The Israeli army did not immediately confirm these claims, before the alleged attacks issued an order to evacuate the inhabitants of Šudžaja and some other areas in the north of the Gaza Strip. “IDF (army) operates in your areas with great power to destroy terrorist infrastructure … You must immediately evacuate these areas and move to well -known shelters in the western part of the enclave,” said Army spokesman Avichaj ADRAI on Platform X.
AP, referring to hospital sources in the Gaza Strip, reported 55 dead.
Israeli Defense Minister Jisrael Kac announced on Wednesday that Israel is expanding its operations in the Gaza Strip to protect Israeli citizens from terrorists – especially members of the Palestinian militant Hamas movement. Kac did not show which parts of the enclave the operation would affect, but at the same time announced the evacuation of Israeli citizens from the areas where the fight is fought.
