Russell Brand faces allegations of rape and sexual offenses he allegedly committed in 1999-2005. He denies the accusations and claims that his relationships have always been consensual.
The London Metropolitan police announced on Friday that after an 18-month investigation, she had accused a 49-year-old British comedian, actor and former moderator Russell Brand of Rape and other sexual offenses that allegedly occurred between 1999 and 2005 and in London, and Bournemout. Brand is accused of raping a woman in 1999 in the area of Bournemouth. In 2004, he allegedly forced another woman to oral sex in the Westminster district of London. He was also accused of harassing a woman in 2001 and a sexual attack by another woman in 2004 and 2005 – both cases also took place in Westminster.
Denial of accusations
Brand denied these charges on Friday. In a video published on the X Network, he said he was taking drugs in the past and was addicted to sex, “but I have never been one – a rapist”. He added that his relationships have always been consensual.
The accusations against Brand made by four women were first published in September 2023 in the Sunday Times newspaper and the documentary film broadcast by Channel 4. Brand had already refused them. However, his agency and the publisher withdrew the contracts with him and the series of his performances was canceled. BBC television and other media he worked for have been conducted by an internal investigation.
Brand’s career
Brand is known for its brave stand-up comedy show. He also worked as a radio and television moderator. He described his struggle with addiction to drugs and alcohol in memoirs, and also performed in many Hollywood films. In 2010 – 2012 he was married to the pop star Katy Perry.
Brand received on 2 May the summons to court in Westminster. Whether it comes in person is questionable, as he recently announced that he moved to the US. There he complained that he was attacked by the authorities in the UK and were trying to “silence” him.
In recent years, the brand has become known videos in which he combined wellness with conspiracy theories. In connection with the war in Ukraine, it spreads pro -Russian views and does not hide his admiration for US President Donald Trump.
