Netanyahu lands in Washington. The White House announced on Monday to cancel the press conference of the president of Donald Trump, and the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamín Netanyahu, scheduled for after the meeting that both will hold in the Oval Office. At the moment, details of the cancellation have not transcended.
A White House official said that “the press conference in the room will no longer be held.” The bilateral encounter in the Oval Office is still scheduled. The US president has received Netanyahu in a meeting that has lasted less than a minute.
Netanyahu has become on Monday the first foreign president who meets with the Republican since Wednesday intensified his commercial war, imposing minimum 10 % tariffs and additional taxes for certain countries, both allies and rivals. In this sense, Tel Aviv was beaten with 17%tariffs.
After Trump’s decision, Israeli finance minister, Bezalel Smotrichopted Thursday for “Continue with dialogue” with the United States to try to “reduce damage” of the new tariffs. In addition to the encumbrances, the Israeli government has reported that in the meeting the efforts would be treated for the return of the hostages (in Gaza), the relations between Israel and Turkey, the Iranian threat and the fight against the International Criminal Court.
