Two cardinals from Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina with the right to participate in the election of the new Pope on Tuesday informed that they would not participate in the upcoming conclave, where the cardinals will elected the successor of the deceased Pope Francis. According to the Spanish media, emeritus Archbishop Valencia Antonio Cañizares LLOVERA (79) will not participate in the election of the new head of the Catholic Church for health reasons.

Reducing the number of electorates

The participation was also rejected by the Archbishop of Emeritus in Sarajevo Vinko Puljič (79), the Croatian television RTL reported.

All cardinals younger than 80 years have the right to vote and be elected. The non -participation of Lulver and Puljič was reduced to 133. Their absence also means that the two -thirds majority for election of the new Pope is reduced from 90 to 89 votes.
