Frederico Luz took on an impact challenge in football in July 2024: to be Corinthians CEO, with the mission of equating club debts and increasing revenues.
However, he left office in December of the same year, after finding an adverse scenario – starting with the fact that the team president, Augusto Melo, began to face an impeachment process due to alleged irregularities in the sponsorship contract with the company Vaidebet. The contract with the betting company was terminated days before Fred Luz’s presentation as CEO.
Fred tells of details of his spell at the São Paulo club in an interview with, interview program Infomoney with the main personalities of the sport that changed the game in their areas (See the full episode below).
He admits that political turbulence has weighed, and so it came out of Corinthians’ daily life. “I would say that at Corinthians, a condition of political alignment was not found in relation to the club’s goals,” he says on the program.
“The president, very stained by various issues, could not have a unit around him, from all the club’s powers. I do not see a peaceful environment in the sense that the larger interests of Corinthians prevail.”
According to Fred, there “a lot of political issue is discussed and the institution’s main objective is lost, which is to take Corinthians up there from the point of view of revenues, results and everything else”.
According to the executive, who today occupies the position of Managing Director of Sports and Entertainment of Alvarez and Marsal, the work currently performed by him in the team of São Paulo is only support in the financial management of the club.

Fred Luz also tells that he faced another difficulty that limited his work at Corinthians: the hiring of an individual to the role of CEO was not foreseen in the club’s statute, and the inclusion would need to be approved by the Deliberative Council, something that never happened in practice.

“They even talk a lot about CEO in association, as CEO is a guy who send. CEO does not send anything. No pen has,” explained the executive. “I even think it has to be that … Who rules is the president of the club and the people around. The CEO makes those wills happen.”
