The preservation of medicines, including vaccines, will be concerned if the energy is not replaced soon. Some pharmacies have had to suspend the operation of the overall activity, being only available for emergency and emergency situations.
Pharmacies face strong embarrassment on Monday without being able to validate prescriptions and, if energy is not replaced briefly, generators can fail, compromising the conservation of medicines that need refrigeration such as vaccines, warned the ANF.
The president of the National Pharmacy Association (ANF), Ema Paulino, told Lusa agency that the blackout that was registered at 11:30 is causing “serious embarrassment” in pharmacies due to failures in communications and energy.
According to Ema Paulino, some pharmacies even had to suspend the operation of the overall activity, being only available for emergency and emergency situations.
He said that the validation of prescriptions is compromised and the functioning of the systems can be affected, especially in the conservation of drugs that need cold.
The president of ANF explained that pharmacies have generators and UPS system (uninterrupted energy source), which allow to keep systems in the event of a power court.
“However, these equipment has limited autonomy, which means that if the situation is not quickly resolved, pharmacies can run out of power, affecting both the functioning of computers and the proper storage of medicines, especially those that need to be kept at controlled temperatures,” he said.
The ANF is giving instructions to the pharmacy network to concentrate the energy of generators and UPs for preservation of medicines.
“We are also already seeing, regarding the medicines we have in the cold, what are the specifications in terms of how long it may not be refrigerated” to give instructions in this regard to pharmacies.
