Police operation in Vidigal aimed to catch drug trafficker... who escaped again

Around 200 tourists, including Portuguese, were surprised by a police operation in a favela in Brazil. Authorities were looking for a drug dealer who ended up escaping.

The trip to Morro Dois Irmãos, in the south of Rio de Janeiro, to see the sunrise at sea was interrupted by a police operation.

The Portuguese Rita and Matilde Oliveira are part of a group of around 200 tourists who were prevented from descending due to a at the base of the hill.

The main avenue was blocked by members of Comando Vermelho. The police target was leader of a drug trafficking group who joined the Red Command and had been escaping from Baía prison for a year and a half. Once again, he managed escape from the authorities.

The incident was controlled early in the morning and no injuries were reported, allowing tourists to return safely and with an unexpected story to share.
