Former President is serving time in Maceió in space with air conditioning and private bathroom, as determined by justice
Baldomero Cavalcanti Prison in Maceió (AL), vacated the director’s room to accommodate former President Fernando Collor de Mello (1990-1992), arrested at the unit since the afternoon of Friday (25.ab.2025). The information was published by S.Paulo Folha.
The unit’s management assessed that the room was the only space capable of meeting Collor’s health needs, as determined by justice, without the need for reforms. The place, located in the administrative corridor, is larger than ordinary cells and has air conditioning and private bathroom.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, from the Supreme Court (STF), determined that the unit administration inform if there is structure to meet the health needs of the former president. On Friday (25.abr), Moraes that Collor was transferred to the Baldomero Cavalcanti de Oliveira Prison in Maceió to serve the closed sentence. The minister also ordered him to stay in an individual cell in the special wing, due to the condition of former President of the Republic.
Inaugurated on February 11, 1999, the Baldomero Cavalcanti Prison has a capacity of 768 condemned prisoners. The unit is divided into 8 modules, including:
- Respect module;
- COC module (for non -military public security prisoners, convicted or provisional);
- Special Module (for detainees with a higher education diploma).
The prison has a ward for medical care, parliamentary for meetings with lawyers, space for religious celebrations and a shelter for family members of prisoners who await the time of visit.
