Collor may receive treatment in prison, tells the STF report

Former President Fernando Collor de Mello may receive adequate medical treatment within the Baldomero Cavalcante de Oliveira Prison in Maceió (RN), according to a medical report sent to the Supreme Court (STF) this 3rd (29.br.2025). The information is from CNN.

CONVICTION

Former President Fernando Collor, 75, was convicted in 2023 for corruption in a lawsuit that derived from Operation Lava Jato. He was denounced in 2015 by the PGR (Attorney General’s Office) to the STF, who began a criminal action against the then senator by Alagoas. Collor left Congress in 2022, when he was not elected.

The arrest warrant is 33 years after the former executive chief suffered an impeachment process in 1992 for an influence trafficking scheme during his government and corruption in family home reforms in Brasilia.

The complaint accused Collor of receiving a bribe of R $ 20 million to favor UTC Engenharia in contracts with BR Distribuidora (today Vibra Energia), a subsidiary of Petrobras. In addition, the former president would have influenced the nominations to the board of the fuel distributor. Payments were made from 2010 to 2014.
