Even amid dissatisfaction on the part of the party, Democracia Cristiana (DC) officially named the former minister of the (Supreme Federal Court), Joaquim Barbosa, as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic. With this, he consolidated the split in the party.
His name is launched under the slogans of ethics and judicial reform. , the DC leadership was already considering announcing it even though the name of former minister Aldo Rebelo had been a pre-candidate since the beginning of the year.
Aldo, however, did not take off in the search. In a note signed by the president of the DC, João Caldas (AL), this Saturday (16), the party sent messages to the wing that still defended the name of the former minister.
“The moment demands unity, purpose and detachment. Brazil is above personal projects”, said the caption.
Before that, however, the intention was to launch Barbosa’s name. To the Panel, the president of the São Paulo directory, former deputy Cândido Vaccarezza, had said that Barbosa is “unsupportable” and that he would work against his candidacy for Palácio do Planalto.
João Caldas countered and stated that he would “summarily” expel anyone who was against Barbosa’s name. Throughout the day, Aldo Rebelo even released a note maintaining his own candidacy.
The party bet on the new name because in qualitative research it realized that the result was positive. There is a strong identification with the ethics banner and with the Judiciary reform agenda, such as the creation of rules of conduct for STF ministers, for example.
