The governor of, (Republicans), praised Javier Milei’s fiscal policy in Argentina and criticized the “mental model” of the Lula government (PT) on Monday (28).
In a seminar for financial market agents, Tarcísio defended the reduction of state spending and partnerships with private companies to ensure investment capacity, as well as asking for changes in policy that links real minimum wage adjustments to the country’s growth – a major petist flags, the target of criticism for expanding public expenses.
“The recipe [para o crescimento do Brasil] It is put. We are talking about deindexation of [salário] Minimum, revenue detachment, budget reform, administrative reform that really cuts costs, resuming a privatization and concession program, “he said.
Although, in São Paulo, last year, Tarcisio paid R $ 837 million in voluntary (non -compulsory) amendments to deputies of his base, the governor told the event that it would be important to extinguish the “fight” for parliamentary amendments at the federal level.
“A budget renovation, which I consider oversight, extinguishes this amendment discussion a little, this fight for a very small budget slice and drains our ability to invest. It is essential to make a cutting of social programs and tax benefits,” he said.
Commenting on the tax issue, however, Tarcisio said that solving the escalation of public debt would not be a complex task. “If you have a fiscal problem today, and in fact, it is nothing that, stirring three, four, five levers, we do not put the country on the way again,” he said.
The main criticism of the federal government occurred when the governor was asked how it would be possible to maintain the country’s economic capacity with fiscal responsibility. “There is a matter of mental model,” he replied.
“The staff are wanting to operate a model of 20 years ago, 30 years old, which was in a circumstance that no longer fits,” he added, without deepening or nominally quoting Lula or members of the president’s team.
From this speech, the governor began to use Argentina as an example of a country that made cuts in public expenses to resume growth.
“If you asked me a while ago if Milei could cut 5% of GDP [Produto Interno Bruto] In public spending in a year, I would say no, it is not possible. But it was. They did it there. And what happened? Inflation fell, the capital flow increased, “said Tarcisio.
Milei has faced general strikes in his management and is often criticized by the social effects of his economic measures.
Tarcisio, political godson of () and considered one of the possible presidential candidates next year, was invited to comment on the elections, but was not asked if he will be a candidate.
“What do I say to my team every day? ‘Forget election.’ We don’t have to think of election, we have to think about presenting results. The rest is a consequence of the results,” he said.
“The best way São Paulo can influence Brazil is doing the right thing. Because if we show that it is working in São Paulo, it can work in another state, it can work in Brazil, we can point a way. What we want is to point a way,” he said.
