The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, wants to accelerate the reform of the electricity sector, which provides for the opening of the free market, increased benefits for low -income consumers and the relocation of sectoral costs.

It is expected that the text of the reform will be completed in 15 days and forwarded as Provisional Measure (MP), as a way to speed the project. This was the proposal presented by Silveira to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in a meeting on Friday, 2.

Among the measures already released by MME are the complete opening of the Free Energy Market from 2028, and the exemption of light accounts of 60 million Brazilians, through the social tariff of electricity.

Other points foreseen in the proposal is the rebalancing of the Energy Development Account (CDE) and the fixation of stricter parameters for the framing of large consumers in the self -production modality, setting a minimum limit of 30 megawatts (MW) hired.

The Secretary of Economic Reforms of the Ministry of Finance, Marcos Pinto, argues that the reform of the electrical system is the time to revise not only the social tariff, to make it more effective, but also cheaper the energy bill reviewing subsidies.
