Australia: Winner in the election the center -left government

The Labor Party led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanesi won today the parliamentary elections held in the ABC public television, based on the first results.

The Labor Party “will form a government in the next parliament,” said ABC electoral analyst Anthony Green.

The leader of the conservative opposition, Peter Datton, lost his headquarters, according to public television on the basis of some results in his constituency.

He acknowledged his defeat in his speech to his supporters and said he phoned Albanesi and congratulated him on his victory. He took responsibility for the defeat and spoke of a “historical opportunity” for the workers.

Senator James Patterson, a spokesman for the Liberals, on the other hand defended the party’s election campaign, which, he argued, was negatively influenced by the “Trump factor”.

Albanezi’s profile

Anthony Albanesi, 62, has been an Australian prime minister since 2022 and comes from a relatively humble environment, as he is the first person in his family to finish high school, according to Australian ABC News. He later received a degree in Economics from the University of Sydney.

During his studies, he began to be interested in politics and the Labor Party.

He has supported socially progressive purposes, such as LGBTQ rights, climate change, social welfare and Palestine.

During the pre -election period, he pledged to face the cost of living costs in Australia and presented plans to provide more free health care, reduction in student debt and small tax cuts.

More recently, critics say he has not done enough to oppose Israel’s war in Gaza, according to ABC, as he continues to support the solution of the two states.

Trump and the overthrow in polls

Both Australia’s two major parties focused on the costs of living costs, but polls showed that the global uncertainty stemming from D. Trump’s duties quickly turned into an important issue for voters during the election campaign.

The Labor Party has tried to present former police officer P. Datton, who is committed to diminishing immigration and cutting thousands of jobs in public services as a conservative close to D. Trump’s positions, hoping that they would deprive the leader of the leader.

For his part, Fr. Datton tried to distance himself from comparisons with the zeal of D. Trump’s adviser, Elon Musk, to reduce the spending of the federal state, but saw his percentages in polls fall in relation to labor after their duties. Donton had the lead in the polls until still in February.
