The populist George Simion won this Sunday the first lap of Romania’s presidential, with 30% of the votes, while second place was tied, between Crin Antonescu, supported by the government coalition, and independent Nicusor Dan, according to the first projections.
According to polls in the mouth of the polls released by the Curs and Avangarde polls, two of the most important in the country, both candidates had 23%.
The projections were released after the closing of the voting tables in Romania, at 21:00 locations (two hours in Lisbon).
According to the Permanent Electoral Authority, until 20:00 locations had voted 50.65% of voters, including in the diaspora, while in the November vote, 51.19% had exercised the vote at the same time.
Eleven candidates competed for today’s presidential, a repetition of the vote, after the election held on November 24 was annulled by the Constitutional Court on suspicion of Russian interference.
