German Chancellor Olaf Scholz promised on Monday that Berlin would continue to support Ukraine. He did so in the last call with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greeny before he was replaced by Friedrich Merz (CDU) on Tuesday. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
“(Scholz) confirmed the ongoing and unwavering solidarity of Germany with Ukraine”Said a spokesman for the outgoing German leader.“He stressed that Germany will continue to support Ukraine for as long as it will be in close cooperation with European and international partners as it will be necessary”He added.
Germany has become the second largest military supporter of Ukraine after the United States. Scholz, however faced criticism that he had postponed key decisions – For example, delivering modern German weapons to Ukraine and refusing to deliver Kiev long -range rockets Taurus.
Merz has already promised to continue supporting Ukraine as a new German Chancellor. On Monday’s call Scholz, he also spoke of Kremlin’s chief Vladimir Putin, saying that his “cynical delay tactics” hamper efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Scholz noted that the Ukrainian president had a willingness to accept a 30-day unconditional ceasefire, showing that “no one desires more than Ukraine,” spokesman said. “This must finally be returned by the Russian president,” Scholz said.
