The new Norwegian rape law introduces the concept of consent. Sexual activities without consent may be criminal. Their perpetrators await up to six years of imprisonment.
On Friday, the Norwegian Parliament approved the bill that the definition of rape to contact will be changed without the consent instead of the current definition aimed at violence, threats or abuse of a person in a vulnerable state. According to Reuters and AFP reports, TASR reports.
The proposal created according to a similar Swedish or Spanish legislation known as “YES means yes” was supported by the majority of the Norwegian parliamentarians. In cases of contact without granting consent, the perpetrators could threaten up to six -year imprisonment.
International legislation
Sexual acts without consent are considered rape in Denmark or Greece, but Finland or Iceland have also been regulated by their regulations. According to the Norwegian proposal, the consent will have to be clearly expressed verbally or by gesture.
“Today, the law considers rape only (cases) in which there has been violence, threats, or if someone has used the vulnerability of a person incapable of disgust,” explained the Minister of Justice Astri Aas-Hansen in April. “However, there may be another reason why a person cannot or cannot reject a sexual proposal,” she stressed. Cases are also taken into account when the victim of a sexual attack is without movement or paralyzed by fear and is unable to resist resistance, writes AFP.
