The press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, described Elon Musk’s statement that President Donald Trump is “in Epstein’s archives” as a “regrettable episode” in a new statement released Thursday (5).

“This is, which is dissatisfied with the unique, large and beautiful bill, (Donald Trump’s tax and spending bill) because he does not include the policies he wanted,” Leavitt told the CNN in a statement.

“The president is focused on approving this historical legislation and making our country big again,” he added.

Musk did not detail how he would have obtained access to unlisted files and provided no evidence of the origin of his information.

In response to Musk’s allegations, a nearby source pointed to the president’s previous comments that he banned financier Jeffrey Epstein of his ownership in Mar-lago.

The source also pointed to the initial portion of files that Attorney General Pam Bondi released in February, which included the name of the president. The mention of names in the records is not necessarily an allegation of any irregularity.

With Epstein in the past is not exactly new; He has already been photographed with Epstein.

But Musk’s accusation feeds concern in some right -wing circles about the lack of transparency in relation to Epstein, which committed suicide in 2019 while waiting for trial on federal accusations of sex trafficking.

What are “Epstein files”?

Several media figures have been suggested for years that the government has been hiding secrets related to Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted pedophile who committed suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sexual trafficking accusations.

Many versions of conspiracy theory say that the government is covering a list of powerful men who have also committed heinous crimes.

This theory has often been summarized as an Epstein’s “customer list”, although the reporter with the best sources on the subject, Julie K. Brown, from Miami Herald, said that “those who worked with the FBI in the case for decades say that there is no evidence that Epstein maintained a book or a list of clients involved in their sex trafficking operation.”

The inclusion of a person’s name does not indicate, by itself, that they have been accused of any irregularity.

However, Trump – who was a friend of Epstein decades ago – spoke during the 2024 presidential campaign about the possibility of promoting more government files about the case.

Attorney General Pam Bondi tried to release earlier this month, saying that Trump instructed her to review government files about Epstein and provide transparency to the public.

She released an early part of the files in February, which was largely duplicate information that had already been made public.
