President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced on Friday (6) that the BRICS will adopt a statement demanding governance about the use of artificial intelligence. The statement was made during a ceremony at Paris 8 University in France, where the leader received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa.
“The absence of regulation of digital networks only interests large corporations. The BRICS summit, which we will host in Brazil in June, will adopt a statement about artificial intelligence governance, it is necessary to put it in the service of all and only half a dozen,” said the president.
The Brazilian is in the country on a six -day state visit.
The regulation agenda was already planned as one of the main topics to be addressed by Lula during the trip.
The president must meet UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay to discuss the need to implement global social networking regulation to prevent the misinformation and spread of authoritarian discourses and hatred.
The Brazilian leader has been defending in almost every trips, the need for international regulation of social networks, as well as the approval of legislation on the performance of the so -called Big Techs by the National Congress.
It is very likely that Lula also deals with the theme with Macron, who has been advocating the need for regulation of the digital environment for the defense of democracy.
UNESCO has been promoting this agenda incisively, stating that the misinformation and promotion of hate discourses are among the greatest risks to the world today.
By 2023, Lula had already participated, through a video message, a meeting promoted by the organization to discuss the creation of global regulatory frameworks aimed at the digital space.
At the time, the petista pointed out that “it is not a censorship, but from where hatred, lies and extremism spread freely”, reinforcing the urgency of international governance for the subject.
