During an event on Wednesday (5), the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, said that the state will be the first in Brazil to replace the use of diesel with renewable alternatives.

The speech took place during celebration of World Environment Day at Villa-Lobos Park in São Paulo.

“Sao Paulo will be the first state of Brazil to replace diesel. We have a fortress called sugar cane, a huge relationship and energy.

Biomethane is a bet by Tarcisio, “that comes from our ethanol plants, which will come from our landfills,” he said.

The statement comes in the wake of measures announced in relation to decarbonization and clean energy. One is the “Conecta Biomethane SP”, a digital platform to interconnect suppliers and stakeholders, also available in a mobile app.

In addition, the International Cooperation Agreement with the World Biogas Association was signed to promote biomethane.

During the event, the governor remembered the burning in the state of São Paulo in 2024 and signed five decrees. Among them, one that provides for the investigation of environmental crimes and sanctions for these cases.
