International Federation had sanctioned Portugal due to a debt of over 800,000 euros. Seven judokas will be in Hungary.
The International Federation of Judo (FIJ) Vai lift the suspension tax to Portuguese Federation (FPJ), for debts, a decision that will allow Seven Luso judokas compete in the world with the country’s insigniathe FPJ said today.

This amount encompasses the contractualization of two of the four Grand Prix that Portugal (2023 and 2024) had made, in the amount of 500.00 euros, plus a funds of 300,000 euros for the 2023 junior worlds.
At various times, the International Federation has notified the Portuguese entity, which still tried to make a symbolic payment of 50,000 euros – but an error in the bank transfer code eventually led to the most extreme decision of the World Judo instance.
In its decision, FIJ recalls that “a member federation whose adhesion fees or any other fees, ‘royalties’ or debts for the IJF or continental union to which they belong not to be paid until May 31 of each year, will not be allowed to participate in the Olympic Games, world championships or any other events held under JIF auspices”.
But now a decision he was reversed, after a meeting maintained on Wednesday in Budapest, between the president of the FPJ, Sérgio Pina, representatives of the International Federation, and the president of the Portugal Olympic Committee, Fernando Gomes.
In the worlds of Budapest, which will be held between 13 and 20 June, Portugal will have the judokas Catarina Costa (-48 kg), Taís Pina (-70 kg), Patrícia Sampaio (-78 kg), Miguel Gago (-66 kg), Otari Kvantiidze (-73 kg), João Fernando (-81 kg) and Jorge Fonseca (-100 kg).
