The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta, said in an interview with journalists during the Sphere 2025 forum on Saturday (7), which could guide the vote of a Legislative Decree (PDL) project to revoke the increase in the tax on financial operations (IOF) next Tuesday (10).
According to Motta, the College of Leaders will deliberate on the possibility after the meeting with the government on Sunday (8). At the time, the federal government will present an alternative fiscal package to raise the tax.
“We have a great respect to the College of Leaders. Let’s go tomorrow, after the presentation of government measures, decide on the PDL, which can enter the agenda next Tuesday. All this will be deliberated after this conversation tomorrow,” he told journalists.
However, then, Motta said the camera will not make “sudden movements”, “not to make matters worse.” In addition, he avoided further topics to be debated in the fiscal package and stated that the prerogative of presentation of the measures is the government’s economic team.
Earlier, on the stage of the event, Motta said that the tax benefits should be treated at the meeting with the government.
“We are putting on the discussion table a cut in the tax exemptions that over time have been given to our country. Exemptions that reach a number no longer possible to bear by the accounts of our country. It is an account that only increases and that has absolutely nothing follow -up about what is received in return,” he said.
“This agenda, I think, will be the one we are going to deal with tomorrow with the government’s economic team. There is a feeling in the House and Senate that the time for a more structuring debate has come,” he added.
