Romanian President Nicušor Dan appointed the Prime Minister of the current Prime Minister of the Senate Iliu Bolojan on Friday. He also worked as a temporary head of the Romanian state from 12 February to 26. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
The appointment of the 56-year-old was the Prime Minister’s office followed after weeks of negotiations in order to form a coalition governmentwhich would address the divided country and the largest budget deficit in the European Union. As expected, Parliament will ask for four -coalition confidence next week.
Bolojan became the acting head of state after the resignation of President Klaus Iohannis. He led the country for several months until the repeated presidential election in May, in which the former Mayor of Bucharest was elected Nicušor Dan. The President is now facing a role to stabilize the political scene and implement the necessary reforms to strengthen the country’s institutions and economics.
Presidential elections in Romania were repeated because the court of the first round of the November 2024 elections annulled for suspicions of Russian interference and manipulations on the election campaign on social networkswhich allegedly favored another candidate Calin Georgesca. The Romanian authorities warned against attempts to influence elections by foreign actors and repeated elections.
