Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský recalled on Wednesday on Wednesday X that the fight against corruption is crucial on the road to the European Union. And although the Czech Republic supports Ukraine, this does not mean the predetermined consent to any steps of the Ukrainian government. He responded to the controversial law approved on Tuesday by the Ukrainian Parliament. Due to the fact that it significantly limits the independence of the two key anti -corruption organs in the country, protests have already been made, the TASR reporter reports.
“We are watching the situation in Ukraine. Fight against corruption is a key part of the EU journey. Ukraine belongs to Europe and our support has its citizens. But support has never been and will never be a check for any government steps,” Lipavský wrote, saying that it reminded Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrij Sybih.
New anti -corruption law
The Ukrainian Parliament, the Supreme Council, approved on Tuesday legislation stricter supervision of two institutions – the National Anti -Corruption Office of Ukraine (NABA) and the Specialized Anti -Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP). Critics warn that the law could weaken their independence and strengthen the influence of the surroundings of the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greeny to investigate corruption cases. According to the Parliament’s website, the President has already signed the law on Tuesday evening.
