The swimming of Brazil will make its debut at the World Water Sports World Cup on Saturday night (26), in the city of Kallang, in Singapore. In a moment of generations transition, the country arrives in the competition to return to the podium in the pools after three years.
The Brazilian delegation left without medal in the swimming of the last two editions of the World Cup in 2023 and 2024. The only podiums in the country came out in the aquatic marathon, both with, which took two bronzes (one in each tournament) in the 5km race.
In the pools, Brazil last mediated in 2022, with Nicholas Santos, in the 50m butterfly, and Guilherme Costa, in the 400m Livre. Guilherme even arrives in the current edition as one of the main candidates for the country’s podium.
At 26, the dog, as it is known, will compete in the 200m, 400m and 800m free events. He arrives accredited with fifth place in Paris-2024 and the current 10th best time in the year, with the mark of 3min45s35.
Team Renewal
Brazil disembarks in Singapore with a delegation in swimming of an average age of less than 24 years. In addition, only four of the 11 athletes are more than 25 years old.
One of the highlights of the new generation is Guilherme Caribé, 22. Speed test swimmer, he has the third and fourth best brand in the world in the 100m and 50m free races, respectively. Its time of 47s10 in 100 meters even puts it in the top-10 of the history of the sport.
In the female, Mafê Costa, 22, and Stephanie Balduccini, 20, lead the Brazilian renewal. The first was a finalist at Paris Games in the 400m free and has the 14th best time in the season (4min06s30). The second, in turn, was present in the last two Olympics and stands out in the 100m Free, holding the South American record of the race.
Guilherme Costa and Stephan Steverink will be the first swimmers in Brazil to fall into the water at the Water Sports World Cup. They will compete in the 400m free qualifiers from 11:20 pm (Brasília).
