Amorim says US fare to Brazil is political pressure

Lula’s advisor states that tariff aims to interfere with the judiciary and, therefore, differs from negotiations between the US and the European Union

The special advisor of the Presidency for International Affairs, Celso Amorim, said on Sunday (27.Jul.2025) that the United States imposed on Brazil cannot be compared to (European Union). According to him, the US government tries to interfere with the Brazilian judiciary.

In his assessment, the agreement with the Europeans was commercial. In the Brazilian case, the 50% rate announced by (Republican Party) would be a form of political pressure.

“It is meant to me, the EU did not have its judicial system assaulted. You can’t compare”Amorim told the newspaper The globe.

In which he justified the taxation of Brazilian products, Trump justified the increase in the treatment that the Brazilian government has given to the former president (PL), whom he said “deeply”. Bolsonaro is a defendant at the Supreme Court (STF) for attempted coup d’état in 2022.

Amorim also said that Brazil should not feel pressured to accelerate negotiations such as Mercosur and European Union agreement because of the United States pacts with other countries.

“International trade is subject to the rules and they have to be followed”he declared.

The US country has already signed an agreement with 7 countries, including China. The government of the president (PT) in the negotiations.
