The village of Cortelha, in the heart of Serra do Caldeirão, receives another edition of the Serranos Manjares, an event dedicated to the promotion of traditional gastronomy in the interior of Loulé municipality. The initiative takes place in the locality pavilion and offers free admission.
Organized by, the event brings together some of the most emblematic dishes of the region, among which stand out the grain dinner, the potatoes with potatoes, the boar in the oven, the lamb stew and the well -known corn porridge.
For those who prefer a lighter tasting, there will also be slaps such as fresh cheese, ear, black pork chorizo of Serra do Caldeirão, mountainous young and, to accompany, a traditional “calço” of the codeder brandy.
Filipe Jesus, president of the Cortelha Friends Association and responsible for a vast team of volunteers, stresses that the event “is a real reason for the local community.”
“Another year and another edition of the Serranos Cortelha Manjars that greatly proud to give us all who visit us. It is an opportunity to taste the best cuisine of the Algarve and bring to the interior of the county many outsiders and visitors,” says the manager.
“That’s why I would like to see a full house again on August 2 – and don’t forget: with free admission,” adds Philip Jesus.
Traditional music and folklore festival animate the event
The Taberna dos Serranos Manjares opens doors at 18:00, and from 19:30 the song begins to sound with the performance of the Brasa Doirada Group. At 8:30 pm the duo Telma Santos and Nelson Duarte takes to the stage in a lively Serrano Ball.
The night will also feature the traditional Folklore Festival of the Serra do Caldeirão Ethnographic Group, which starts at 21:00, and will be attended by the Gafette Folklore Ranch (Crato) and the Folkloric Ranch of Alcanhões (Santarém), representing the traditions of Alto Alentejo and Ribatejo.
Considered the most genuine show of the flavors and knowledge of the Louletan interior, the mountainous manjars are assumed as a meeting point between tradition and cultural identity, bringing together gastronomy, music, folklore and handicrafts in a festive and familiar environment.
The event has the support of the Loulé City Council and the Salir Parish Council.
