From Artmann to Zhadan: Which pictures of poets are drawn from themselves

Ukrainian Serhij Zhadan recently accepted the Austrian State Prize for European Literature: in Salzburg. The authorities had released him from service to the weapon to visit the festival city. Zhadan, as a Famos author, a frontradiomacher in the camouflage robe, not only writes in a chronicle that describes the defense against Putin’s hordes in the everyday life of the war. Its serious, collected appearance reliably suffocates every path of pathos in the germ. Serhij Zhadan is already changing the image that ours makes of the art of poetry.
