Doctors in India have identified a type of previously unknown blood group, with an antigen called CRIB.
The new blood group was discovered in a 38 -year -old patient in Karnataka. Initially, doctors identified her blood group as the first positive, but none of the blood doses from donors were compatible with it.
The samples were sent for research in the UK. There, in an international laboratory specialized in blood groups, the woman’s blood was analyzed for nine months, and the specialists found the presence of a completely new antigen, which had not been previously documented.
At the 35th Congress of International Blood Transfusion Society (ISBT), scientists announced that the discovery of the new Crib (Cromer India Bangalore) was sufficient to include in the existing blood groups Cromer.
In 2024, a new, unrecognized new variant of the Rh D. antigen was identified at a donor from Moscow.
Doctors have established that the man has a second group and a negative Rh factor. But a more detailed research has shown that antigen D is still present, but the exact phenotype cannot be determined without a molecular-genetic analysis.
