OAB condemns arrest during process to attacks on sovereignty – 07/08/2025 – Power

The (Brazilian Bar Association) issued a note on Thursday (7) asking for restraint and prudence in front of that of the former president (PL).

Even without quoting Bolsonaro and the Supreme Court Minister (Supreme Court), the Order condemned and called on the authorities to a reflection on.

“It is necessary to reaffirm that criminal measures, especially those that limit freedom, must be adopted unquestionablely and with full respect for constitutional guarantees, including the right to freedom of expression,” he says.

The OAB states that it argues that the defendants are treated according to due process of law. “Without this, dangerous precedents are open, which can tomorrow reach any political-ideological direction,” he adds.

The note is signed by the Board of the Federal Council of the OAB and the College of Presidents of the Order Section Councils. They claim that they could not be silent “in the face of excesses of any nature and institutional origin.”

The Order says it has “tirelessly acted” to reverse STF decisions that hurt the prerogatives of advocacy regardless of the ideological bias of the defendants or investigated.

“In the same way, the OAB vehemently rejects gestures and actions of elective mandates and political leaders that encourage the discredit of public institutions and incite the adoption of measures, especially foreign, that destabilize the country’s economy and, consequently, Brazilian entrepreneurs and workers,” he says.

The note says attacks on national sovereignty are inadmissible and that freedom of expression cannot serve as a “shield for undemocratic practices.”

“The Brazilian Bar Association calls on all members of the Powers of the Republic – executive, legislative and judiciary – and all political and civil leaders of the country to sign a pact for the pacification of Brazil, with absolute respect for homeland sovereignty, due process and constitutional and legal norms, the judiciary and all public institutions,” he adds.

This has been the first OAB demonstration since the beginning of the political crisis escalation, with the attempted US government of interfering with the STF scammer process and Bolsonaro’s house arrest.

The order has been provoked by lawyers who work in the proceedings about the attempted coup d’état, such as the defenses of Braga Netto and Bolsonaro, to speak out against what they consider to be.

The president of the entity, Beto Simonetti, had been preferring not to speak publicly about the minister’s performance. In order, however, the OAB began to accompany in loco sessions and hearings of the process about the attempted coup.

The OAB’s decision published the note on Thursday was taken after sectional section began to position themselves independently. The board of Rio de Janeiro released on Tuesday (5) a text expressing concern about the “escalation of the restrictions imposed on freedoms” of defendants.
